Hi, it’s Ruth! I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of November 30th. Actually, tomorrow is December.
I hope you all had a spectacular holiday with your loved ones. I hope you were able to take a pause, take a deep breath and just find yourself the time to become refreshed; when you could reflect and be grateful and come back to life this week just feeling energized and hopeful. That’s what I hope for you guys.
I also want to say that we are returning to classes this week. So, classes this week are all online.
As you’ll remember, a couple of weeks ago the governor had made a two week pause; so, we had planned at that time to continue our classes online. And an update for that is, that with the new information (the latest and greatest), we have decided to continue holding our classes online next week, the week after, potentially until the new year. So, we’ll just see how that goes. As soon as we can get back in the studio, of course we definitely will. But, for the meantime we are going to hold classes online until further notice.
I also want to just remind you guys that since March, when our lives got a little topsy-turvy, our goal here, our priority here at Silver Creek Clogging, has been to keep consistent, weekly classes in a way that maintains our physical health as well as our mental health. And, the feedback we’ve received from you is, that goal is being achieved; that consistency in holding the classes has been really appreciated. For you, although we love having classes in person, the fact that the classes are able to continue, even online, has been just a boost for you guys and maintaining that consistency, and keeping your bodies moving, keeping your mental stimulation, and just lifting you up with joy.
So, that’s gonna continue to be our goal, that’s gonna continue to be our priority, just to keep those dance classes going on a weekly basis in a way that maintains our physical and mental health so that we can keep dancing together for a long, long time.
So, our thought of the week this week (I really like this one.); it seems to be appropriate considering the circumstances. This is a quote by Marilyn Vos Savant and she says,
“Being defeated is only a temporary condition; giving up is what makes it permanent.”
Boy, I’ll tell you what, when things get tough (they’re super tough right now), it can just feel like we want to throw our hands up and just give up, really. But, things are never going to go our way, we’re learning that in 2020 more than any other year; that things don’t always go our way. And, the good thing is that, we get to decide what we do with whatever comes our way. And, we can choose to give up or we can choose to have hope and courage and move forward.
And, I want you guys to know that it’s okay to take a step back; it’s okay to pause, take a deep breath, to cry and be frustrated if you need to, and then to reinvigorate the courage that you have inside you. You do have courage inside of you; reinvigorate it and remember that you can move forward.
Keep believing.
Have hope.
Know that you are capable of more than you even know.
Remember to support each other through these tough times and don’t give up.
You’ve got this.
We’ve got this together.
And, yeah, keep going forward.
That’s our thought for the week.
Here’s our studio calendar and upcoming events.
This Friday, first Friday December 4th, we’re gonna have our First Friday open studio. It’s gonna be actually a workshop. We’re gonna learn a holiday routine. We don’t usually get to learn holiday routines, so it’ll be a winter holiday routine. It’ll be kind of an easy intermediate level and you can join from your student dashboard. There will be an all studio event an activity link for Friday at 6:30. So, join us for that.
And then, this Saturday, December 5th, we’re hosting our Discover Clogging workshop. It’ll be online.
And, in case you guys don’t know, we get asked a lot (very regularly) if we have a introductory class or a trial class, or something like that, so that people who have don’t know how awesome clogging is (like we do) can take a trial class. And, Discover Clogging is our trial class.
So, this is the perfect time for your friends and family to come, take this trial class, and discover how amazing clogging is.
If they can’t come this Saturday, then we have another workshop coming up in January. So, just keep an eye out for that.
And, anyone who’s interested can go to silvercreekclogging.com/discover, to find out more information and to sign up. And, once they’re signed up, they’ll get the link to join us online.
The week of December 14th, that’s in two weeks, we’re gonna have a wear your ugly or pretty or fun holiday outfit. If you want to wear a sweatshirt or a t-shirt, or something like that, it would be super fun. You could even put a holiday ribbon in your hair, wear holiday socks, it’ll just be really fun and take us through into our holiday break in a little bit of fun.
Because, the next two weeks after that, the weeks of December 21st and 28thh, we will not be having any classes at all; we’ll be closed for winter break.
But, on New Year’s Day, in the afternoon, we’re gonna have another workshop, a first Friday workshop. It’s not gonna be an evening workshop, we’ll have it earlier in the day. So, keep your eye out for that.
And, then of course, please keep Saturday, January 16th on your calendar. We’re gonna have a winter showcase recital that day. So, just keep that on your on your calendar.
If we’re not able to have it at an event venue, for some reason, don’t worry; we’ve got something up our sleeves to make sure that we will be able to have that holiday performance. So, just remember that, okay. So, please keep that on your calendars.
Then, Saturday, February 6th we’re having our competition in Portland. Please keep that day on your calendars.
And then, also, the following weekend for competition, please keep the Friday and Saturday, the 12th and 13th, on your calendars. That’s for competition in Boise, so we definitely want to keep those days on our calendar.
All right, so that’s what we have on tap. And, yeah, there you have it.
It’s so hard. It’s so hard to go back to online classes, after we’ve been able to be in the studio. I know it’s hard, it’s hard for me, too. I love having you guys in the studio. But, I’m really, really grateful that we get to keep dancing online.
We’ve made a ton of improvements to our audio and video setup since March. We have upgraded our internet service, mic’d our taps, mic’d our sound, mic’d our voice. So, it’s a lot more smooth now, than it was back in March and April. So, I’m really thrilled that we are able to have this new setup, to have our classes online.
Know that I am sending you all of my love, I’m sending you my very best wishes, and I’m sending you my wishes for joy and Happy Dancing.
