Hi. It’s Ruth. I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging dance and movement center, in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is what’s happening at Silver Creek Clogging, the week of January 18th.
And, right off the bat, I want to say a huge thank you and another thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who came together over this past weekend to make our winter showcase a success.
I’m just thrilled that we were able to have our show outside, socially distanced, with everyone watching from their vehicles, dancers spaced six feet apart on the dance floor; it was just really awesome. I kind of feel like crying a little bit right now.
I’m just so grateful to you guys, who put in the effort to come together and celebrate our dancers. It’s been just a hard time and this was a major event and a major milestone for our dancers; just to be able to come together, to be actually able to perform live, in person, the routines that they’ve been working so hard on for the last several months and show their skills off to their family and friends.
So, thank you, again, so much for making it happen for us, for our dancers. Your support for our dancers, your support for the studio, your support for each other, it just really means a lot.
I also want to acknowledge that there were several of our dancers unable to participate in the performance this past weekend. It’s just been a crazy year. Crazy; actually, it’s almost been 12 months since this lockdown roller coaster that we’ve been on.
So, a lot of our dancers who had put in huge efforts, practiced, perfected their routines/their dances, all of their items to showcase for our studio community, they weren’t able to participate.
And, I think that’s hard for someone, who’s put in all of that preparation up front and then becomes unable to show off their skills, show off their hard work, to their family.
We know that there were several of you unable to participate. You were missed. We can’t wait to see you perform your routines in the end of May for our theater recital.
So, you will still have a chance to show off all your stuff. We just really did miss you this past weekend.
I would like to ask a quick favor, for everyone who was able to participate this weekend, if any of your families got a video or a snapshot on their phone that you could share to the studio’s Facebook page, or tag us in, or both; that would be really awesome. It would be great to share those memories with those who were unable to join us. And I was not able to get photos, due to technical difficulties as well as just general running around, so I’d really appreciate it if you would be able to share your memories with all of us on the Facebook.
And, that is pretty much it for this week. I want to tell you what we have on the calendar, that’s coming up.
First of all, this week we’re back to classes, no breaks.
We’re just going to get right at it and we’re going to have a little bit of a fun, post recital mini-celebration; so, that’ll be fun. We’ll be doing that in each of our classes this week; super excited about that.
And then, coming up on Friday, February 5th, that’s our first Friday open studio as per usual. We’ll have more details about how that’s going to work as time gets nearer to that first Friday open studio.
For those of you who are participating in the virtual Boise competition, we are going to schedule a time to take your videos on February 6th, that Saturday, the previous time when our Portland competition was scheduled. So, we’re going to use that day instead, to do videos for the virtual competition. Heads up on that.
The following weekend, February 12th and 13th, that’s Boise. So, for those of you going to Boise in person (the Boise competition), that will be that weekend. Super excited about that.
Let’s see, some other things to make sure that you have on your calendar, coming up:
The week of March 22nd, that’s scheduled for spring break and we’re scheduled to have the studio closed; no classes that week. So just a heads up on that.
Also, please keep on your calendars a couple of key dates in May.
So, May 14th and 15th is nationals competition in Utah. Please keep that on your calendars. With everything going on, of course these days, scheduling can sometimes be a little bit iffy, but right now that is the scheduled date for nationals. And, for those of you who qualify for nationals, we’ll be really excited to participate. It’s gonna be awesome.
Also, please keep on your calendars the very last Saturday in May; it’s May 29th, the very last Saturday. We will be having our spring kickoff performance or I guess it’s a summer kickoff performance, at the Historic Grand in Salem. So, please keep that date on your calendar.
We will perform all the routines that we have been working on the last several months (that we performed on Saturday), as well as one or two additional routines, so it will be a full-on theater recital. Should be awesome.
So, that’s it. That’s what we have to share with you this week. Really excited for our in-class mini celebrations this week. I want to thank you guys, again, for just making our recital this last Saturday happen; for your participation, for all of the cheers (the whoops and hollers) that cheered on our dancers, and encouraged them and celebrated them.
Thank you again so much for your support of me, of our studio, our dancers, of each other. I really appreciate you. Really, really grateful for you. I couldn’t do it without you.
And, before I fall into tears, I’m gonna leave it at that and say… Happy Dancing.
