Hey, it’s What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of May 3rd.

I’m Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. It’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.

It’s May and that means we start our class chats this month. We’ve been talking to you, for several weeks now, about the upcoming changes to our curriculum and here we are. We’re starting our class chats this month, with a focus on responsibility. So, this whole month we’ll be taking a few minutes in class to talk about the importance of responsibility.

One of the most important things that we all can do in life is be willing to take responsibility for our choices and for our attitudes. So, in the studio, we’re going to be talking all month long about the importance of responsibility.

At home, what you can do is, on your way to and from the studio each week, let your student know why you think responsibility is an important trait to develop and maybe talk about how you want them to show responsibility at home. You can even think of some small ways and set some goals around what you want your student to do at home to show responsibility.

Here’s a quote about responsibility from Eleanor Roosevelt, “In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die, and the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.”

So, that’s our focus for the month in our class chats; responsibility.

Our new class schedule will be changing effective June 1st and your student will be bringing home their new class schedule with them from class today.

So, we’ll be handing out the new timetable for each student’s class in their class this week, all right? So, look for that.

Also, a COVID update. As you may have seen on the social media, we have a big canopy tent out in the parking lot and that is where we’re going to be holding classes while the new restrictions are in place.

So, as you might know the governor, last week, said that all counties in extreme risk need to go back to some restrictions on capacity indoors, and I called to the state offices and was informed that: dance studios are considered a fitness or recreation activity, not necessarily a youth activity; that youth activities and those guidelines are specifically related to the schools; and youth activities outside of schools do not permit indoor dance, unless there’s a 25 foot distance between each student and each staff member. So, because of that, we are taking our classes outside so that we can be safe and follow the guidance of our governor.

So, it’s kind of actually fun to be outside, a little bit refreshing to feel the wind. And, yesterday we danced outside in the rain, which was a little extra fun. So, just be prepared for that. It’s gonna be fun and super excited. So, we will have our classes outside for the time being.

Here’s what’s on the studio calendar/upcoming events.

This Friday, May 7th, we’ll have outdoor open studio. If you’d like to attend just let us know/RSVP by Thursday evening, if you want to come to open studio outside.

And, then, this Saturday, actually which is May 8th, is our virtual competition filming session. So, everyone who’s competing in Nationals will come to the studio this Saturday and the schedule will go home with your student this week in class; actually today in class, so FYI on that.

And then, next Saturday is the pet parade we are still planning to attend that and participate in that. If you would like to join us, and walk in the pet parade next Saturday, just let us know in class and we will get you set up with the information about where to meet and the protocols and all that.

The week of May 17th is crazy hair and studio t-shirt week. So, get your hair all crazy and wear your studio t-shirt and we’ll be crazy outside in our tent, yeah? Maybe, who knows maybe by then we’ll be able to be back inside. We’ll see.

And then, May 29th, the last Saturday of May, is our all-studio summer kickoff recital and dress rehearsal. More details coming on that, pending COVID restrictions.

And, we will celebrate our recital in classes the next week after that. So, it’s the week of May 31st, we’re going to have a celebration. That’s going to be a little different than you’re normally used to, so I’m kind of excited about that.

And, that week also, the week after recital we have first Friday open studio on June 4th.

And, the very next week we’re going to start learning the clog down show down. Yay! Super excited about that.

So, that’s what’s on the calendar. Please keep those dates on your calendars.

Also, remember how much we appreciate you. Thank you so much for being part of our studio community. We’re excited to be offering this new, enhanced curriculum. It’s what I’m calling our Happy Dancer program. Still kind of thinking about the name for that, so if you have any suggestions let me know.

And, yeah, I’m really proud to be offering an education that provides your dancer with the skills to excel as cloggers and as people.

Thank you so much for being part of this unique culture, this unique studio community. We appreciate you and wish you happy dancing.
