Hi! It’s What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of May 10th.
I’m Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
And, one of the reasons why we are the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM is because we are focusing on the whole person. We’re focusing on, not just dance skills but we’re focusing on, life skills.
And, this month our focus of our class chats for life skills is on responsibility.
And, last week in classes we talked about a locus of control. Yeah, a big word, right? That is a term that social psychologists use to refer to the extent to which people feel they have control over what happens to them in their lives. And, what they’re saying is that, in general, when people feel that they are in more control over the things that happen to them and around them, they are happier and they are also more successful. So, another way to say that is, that when people are coming from more of an internal locus of control, they are generally more happy and more successful. So, that is that.
In the studio, we talked a little bit about that last week. We asked students to think of an example where they felt like maybe they didn’t have very much control over a situation and then we also asked them to think about some aspect of that situation that they did have control over. One thing we always have control over is our attitude. So, we just talked about things, we asked them to think about that, and we’ll come back together this week and talk about that.
So, at home, one thing you can do is discuss that with your student. Maybe help them/brainstorm with them about a situation where they felt they had little control and think about something that they can do to impact the outcome for themselves.
So, yep. That’s what we want to do, is help our students think about the things that they have responsibility for and how they can take responsibility for their futures. All right?
So, we will continue on talking about responsibility for the rest of the month and we’ll be touching base every week.
On to COVID update. The restrictions have been lifted, so we are back inside for classes this week. I do want to let you know that the tent is going to remain up in the parking lot; so, when you’re coming in and out dropping kids off, just be aware of that tent and stay safe all right.
We will be participating in the pet parade this Saturday. We’ll be collecting RSVPs from students this week, so please have your student let us know if they can participate. The parade lineup starts at 9:30. We are encouraging students to bring pets. We are encouraging students to wear something fun; your Silver Creek Clogging t-shirt and then some fun thing. I might even wear something fun. So, anyway that’s that.
A heads up that the parade protocols require masks for all participants. So, just heads up on that. And, we will hand out a info sheet in class for kids to take home, all right.
Hey, our summer kickoff recital is just a few weeks away. It is the last Saturday of May (this month), so just a few weeks away. Super excited.
We will be having that at the Historic Grand Theatre, in Salem.
A couple of things to note. This year we’re going to be having our studio portraits taken by Annie Smith Photography and those will be conducted in the morning, just before we have the dress rehearsal, so heads up on that. You have a schedule tentative schedule for the day outlined in your email, so take a look at that.
Here is what’s on the calendar. Of course, this Saturday, pet parade. Yeah, fun!
Next week, we’re gonna have our studio t-shirt and crazy hair week. I’m already thinking about how to do my hair all crazy. Should be fun.
And then, the last Saturday in May, our all-studio dress rehearsal and recital.
The following week, which is the week of May 31st/the first week in June, we are going to be celebrating all of our amazingness in class. So, it’s going to be a different kind of celebration than you’re used to; so just be prepared and get ready to come to class and celebrate, all right.
Uh, let’s see… June 4th, first Friday open studio.
And the very, very next week, right after that, the week of June 7th, we begin learning the clog down show down routine. Yeah? Woohoo! Super excited.
So, a lot coming up on the calendar. Lots of fun things. Please keep all of those dates on your calendars. Please let us know if you have any questions.
And, thank you. Thank you for being part of Silver Creek Clogging and thank you for your part in the success of your dancer.
We appreciate you and we wish you happy dancing.
