Hi. It’s What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of June 14th. I’m Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton Oregon. It’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
So, last week in classes, we began to learn our clog down showdown routine. Super, super fun. Shat’s even more fun is that I can see students are gearing up already for the big showdown. I even caught some of them dancing and practicing before and after class, while they were waiting outside the studio. So, super fun. It should be a really great showdown this year and I’m super, super excited.
For our leadership focus, Tapping into ExcellenceTM, leadership program focus this month we’re working on communication.
So, one of the things that is really important about effective communication is choosing our words. Because, words, they can be used to build someone up and they can also be used to destroy. So, we, here in the studio, we focus on using our words to build and grow confidence and self-esteem in our dancers. So, we really focus on catching our students doing good and celebrating those positive things. So, that means that we do our best to try to point out when students are acting, speaking, dancing in the way that we want them to.
So, this week we’re going to be asking our students to make a commitment to avoid blaming and gossip in their speech. That is a super hard thing for all of us to do, so we’re gonna do a little bit of practice to do our very best to avoid blaming and gossip in our speech.
And, we could really use your help at home. So, if you notice that they are speaking in a kinder way and are choosing their words a little bit more carefully, we could really use your help to point that out, to help celebrate with them that they are practicing and that it’s working. So, it just really helps to reinforce what we’re working on in class if you can help point that out for them at home, and it also encourages them to keep practicing those things. So, we would really appreciate that from you.
It’s a super fun month here at Silver Creek Clogging, as we’re Tapping into ExcellenceTM in our leadership program. And, thank you so much for helping and supporting your dancer in those efforts.
In classes this week, we’re going to continue learning our clog down showdown, of course. And, for those of you who are expecting an All-Around Solo DVD, those will be handed out in class this week. We have started already to learn our All-Around Solos, so those DVDs are really great to supplement that in class instruction. There’s a little teaching video on there, quick teach of the of the solos, so it really, really helps. Yeah, so expect those this week.
Here’s what’s coming up on the studio calendar. Friday, July 16th is our clog down showdown and family potluck. Please put that on your calendar. It’s one of our most fun events of the year.
The week of August 2nd we’re going to dress up, if we want. Wear a dance costume or some other fun thing, whatever seems fun to you, to class that week. So, that will be super fun.
Just a heads up – Monday, September 6th is Labor Day and we will not have any classes on Monday, September 6th for the Labor Day holiday.
We are lining up some community performances for the summer and early fall, so please put these dates and events on your calendars.
Plan to participate with us on Saturday, August 7th. We will be participating in the Homer Davenport parade.
On Saturday, August 21st, we will be dancing at the Silverton Arts Festival.
On Saturday, October 2nd, we are hoping to participate in the Silverton Sidewalk Shindig. We’re still working on that. So, in the meantime, please keep that on your calendar.
Silverton Farmers’ Market. As soon as they are allowing performers, we are hoping to get on their calendar. So, please keep a heads up on that one.
And, then, the Davenport House, we had planned a performance there a year, year and a half or… yeah, quite a while ago and were not able to do that performance. So, we are going to see if we can get lined up there again.
So, please keep those dates and events on your calendars. We will let you know final info, once we have the TBD ones scheduled. But, yeah, just heads up for your planning for this summer. It’s gonna be so awesome to be able to get out into the community again.
