Hi. This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of June 28th.
I’m Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This month is almost over. We’re coming to the end of June and, with the end of June, we are finishing up our Tapping into ExcellenceTM leadership focus that has been all about communication. This month we have really been focusing on that one skill and one of, maybe, the most important things that we’ve discussed about communication is, that it is so much more than just the words that come out of our mouths. It is in our facial expression, it’s in our tone of voice even, it’s in our body language, these days it’s even in the emojis that we’re sending on text messages.
So, communication is just a really huge and really important topic; especially for dancers, because as dancers we are communicating so much with our bodies. We’re not communicating with our voices, for the most part.
And, I think, as cloggers we get so focused on the rhythms that are coming from our feet that we forget, sometimes, that we have our whole bodies, our facial expressions, everything, that’s what helps us communicate to our audience members and others as we’re dancing.
So, anyway, it’s just a really important principle. Learning how to communicate through dance is one of the things that makes a dancer a great dancer.
So, yeah, we would love to hear what you noticed in your student this month. Have you seen them make some shifts in their communication over the last month? Let us know. It really helps us to know what you have seen, and kind of helps us steer our hard work, as we continue to have further class chats in the coming months.
One of the things we want to talk about is our COVID update. So, you may have heard that our governor intends to lift all of the… well, maybe not all (we don’t know, I guess)… most of the masks, physical distancing and capacity limit requirements. And, yeah, that’s no later than June 30th, which is in just a couple of days.
So, we are waiting to see what, if any, guidance might come up. We don’t know what additional, you know, state/local guidance might come up around the COVID public health measures.
So, please be prepared, this week, to continue masking and physical distancing. We intend to keep our eye out for any updated guidance that might be coming on the state or local level, and we’ll review that, and evaluate it, and then from there we’ll determine what, if any, protocols we might update here at the studio.
But, in the meantime, please be prepared to wear masks, if you are not vaccinated, and maintain physical distancing requirements, and we will definitely keep you posted with any updates.
We are eager to move into the next phase of this whole situation, so we will definitely be keeping you posted.
Studio calendar and upcoming events:
The next thing we have that’s a big deal, that’s on the calendar is the clog down showdown. It is July 16th. Every student and their family is invited to come. We will be most likely having that at the studio this year, and we’re gonna have a clog down showdown, and we’re gonna eat. We’ll have a little hamburgers/hot dogs type of situation, and potluck, and play some games, and have a family night out. So, please plan Friday, July 16th at 6:00pm for that.
The week of August 2nd it is dress up to class week. You can wear any dress uppy thing you want; even a fun headband, even a previous dance costume that you performed in. Something fun that will just perk up/liven up our class.
Monday, September 6th, for those of you who have Monday classes, please be aware that we will not have class on Monday, September 6th. We will be closed that day for the Labor Day holiday.
Some important dates to keep on your calendar: next year, Saturday January 22nd we will be having our winter showcase recital and dress rehearsal. So, please put that date/block that date off for that performance and dress rehearsal.
In addition, then, June: Saturday, June 4th… Sorry, Saturday, June 4th we will be having our summer kickoff recital and dress rehearsal.
So, those are two super duper important dates for all of our dancers, notes went home with our students last week. We’ll continue to pass those around this week, for those of you who maybe missed getting those home.
Also, please keep on your calendars some community performance opportunities coming up.
Every student is invited to participate on Saturday, August 7th in the Homer Davenport parade. Yes. We will be participating in that, so all of our students… We’re going to be handing out candy, dancing a little bit, should be really fun.
Saturday, August 21st: Silverton Arts Festival. Again, all of our students are invited to come dance with us that day, on the festival stage.
And, please keep Saturday, October 2nd on your calendars. We’re still working on this one but please, in the meantime, keep that on your calendars.
The Silverton Farmers’ Market: we are in touch with the farmers market and working to find a date, at some point in the future, maybe in August or something; so, please keep ready for that, for a Saturday coming up.
And then, the Davenport House we have no idea, yet, when we can get there, but please just be ready/heads up ready for that.
Those are our summer performance opportunities. Please, put all of those dates on your calendars and we will look forward to getting out in the community again this year. Yay! I’ve missed it so, so much. I bet you have too.
So, that’s what’s happening in the studio this week, and just remember that we are continuing to wear masks, we’re continuing to physical distance, for the time being, until we see what, if any, guidance might be headed our way.
And, yeah, looking forward to seeing you in class. Until then… happy dancing.
