Hello. This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of July 5th.

I’m Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.

Happy Independence Day. I hope you enjoyed a super safe and super happy celebration with your families.

This week, all classes are on as scheduled. So, all classes are on as scheduled.

And, it’s July. We’re now in July, which means we now have a new Tapping into ExcellenceTM leadership focus for the month of July. And, this month, we are focusing on self-esteem.

Sometimes, I think the phrase “self-esteem” gets a little bit of a bad rap, but it’s a super, super important concept; because, esteem – the word esteem – means to value or admire. And, so, basically, self-esteem means recognizing your own value.

I think, sometimes, it can be really easy to get caught up in the trap of trying to compare yourself to someone else, in an effort to determine what your own value is.  But, the reality is that this ladder of comparison is only real if we keep trying to climb it.  Because, your value is inherent.  It’s already there.  Your value is already inside of you.

So, this month, we are hopeful that you will talk to your student about what it means to have healthy self-esteem.  Please encourage them to get to know what their own unique strengths, and talents, and gifts are. And, we’re going to do the same in classes this month.

So, it’s going to be an awesome month. I love it.

A quick quote: Marilyn Monroe said, “Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.”  So, remember, you are you.

Okay, so, COVID update. Last week, we let you know that we were going to review any guidance that came out by the state and, guess what, there are some requirements and recommendations that we need to take into consideration here, at the studio.

So, we’ve reviewed those and here’s the updated protocols for the studio.

Face masks/face coverings are recommended to be worn at all times, including while dancing, if you’re not fully vaccinated. So, face masks and face coverings, recommended.

Student check in and check out procedures are going to continue as per usual. So, you’ll wait outside, either in your vehicle or under the canopy, and your instructor will come out, ask the health-related questions and take your temperature. All systems go, then you’ll enter the studio.

Wellness criteria. So, of course, there are those standard sets of questions and the temperature checks that we do. If you do not pass those pre-entry checks and/or if the student is feeling unwell, they will not be able to attend class in the studio.  So, we do, as usual, have the option for anyone to join classes virtually at any time.  So, that is definitely an option if you are not able to join classes in the studio.

Please monitor your student before coming to the studio and if your student is unwell, just don’t even come.  Let us know if your student is not well enough to come but is well enough to dance, then they can join in virtually. That’s definitely an option.

For quarantining and isolation, we are following the state’s guidance that they’ve implemented and a link to that guidance is in your email. So, check that out.

For distancing, we are continuing to limit class sizes at this time.  We will be removing the chairs from the dance floor and we’re going to change the markings on the floor just a little bit, so that our students can maintain plenty of distancing for safety.

Let’s see… Oh, so in that regard, when we’re removing the chairs from the dance floor, students are going to start using the cubby holes or the lockers to store their belongings during class.  So, their shoes, their bags, whatever; they’ll just put those in the cubbies.

Water bottles. They’ll bring their water bottles with them and set them either on the floor or on the pony wall and have those available right at the dance floor for use.  Because, the drinking fountain is going to remain off for the time being. So, please remember to bring water in a spill-proof bottle.  We work up a sweat in clogging, so everybody’s going to want to have water.

Disinfecting. We will continue to disinfect high-touch surfaces in between classes.  We’re doing that right now, so we will continue to do that for the time being.

And, we did want to let you know that the designated COVID-19 point-of-contact is yours truly – Ruth.  All the contact information about how you can get in touch with me is in your email.  It’s just the studio’s number (where you can either text or call to the studio) or email. If your student is unwell/if your student’s been exposed to COVID-19, please let us know right away; because, we are following those quarantine and isolation guidance that’s linked to your email.

If, for some reason, we do need to quarantine or isolate.  We will just have the on-line option for classes.  So, that’s always an option – online option – if something happens and we have to not come here together to the studio, for a class or so, we will just have those classes on-line. And we will send you an update and remind you about how you can join your student’s class on-line.

Next, we are hiring. We have an opening for a part-time classroom aid to assist the instructor during classes. And, right now, the position is only open to current Silver Creek Clogging students. If you love clogging, if you want to help others to learn how to love clogging as much as you, if you love to learn and grow under the guidance of a mentor-minded leader, if you are excited about the possibility of contributing to the success of a growing studio community, this job is for you.  We would love to have you join our team.  And, the information about the job and how to apply is in your email.

So, what’s on the studio calendar? Guess what? Next Friday (it’s next Friday), July 16th at 6:00pm is our Clog Down Showdown and family potluck.  We are going to have that here, at the studio.  Silver Creek Clogging’s going to provide the hot dogs and hamburgers and all of the fixings and we’re asking every family to bring something (a potluck item) to share with everyone. So, we’ll send a note home with students this week.

The week of August 2nd is wear your something fun – dance costume, goofy outfit – whatever you want that’s super fun and dance appropriate, I guess, so you can still move and dance, to class. That will be awesome.

Monday, September 6th is Labor Day and we are not going to hold classes on Labor Day.  So, those of you with Monday classes, heads up on that.

Saturday, January 22nd, next year, please put on your calendars now. That’s our winter showcase recital and dress rehearsal.  Just plan on that happening, pretty much all day Saturday that day.  Dress rehearsal in the morning and performance in the late afternoon/early evening.

Saturday, June 4th, 2022 is our summer kick-off recital and dress rehearsal. Again, just plan on the day for that.  We’ll have photos that day, and everything that day.

Community performances. What we have on the calendar is:

Saturday, August 7th is the Homer Davenport Community Festival parade. We’re going to be in that parade.

Saturday, August 21st is the Silverton Arts Festival. We’re going to dance on the Silverton Arts Festival stage.

And, three events that we are still working on are the Silverton Farmers’ Market, the Davenport House, and the Silverton Sidewalk Shindig. So, those are just kind of… hold those, we’re working on those.

Please put those dates and those events on your calendars.  As many of our students who can participate, that would be awesome. Alright? Yes.

That is our update for the week.  Please, please remember to chat with your student at home about what it means to have healthy self-esteem.  Help them to recognize what their unique talents and gifts are and we’re going to be focusing on that all month long, here in the studio, in July.

Thank you so much for being part of Silver Creek Clogging. We just appreciate you and we love you. We think you are amazing and we couldn’t do it without you.  And, remember… happy dancing.
