Hey, it’s What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of August 16th. I’m Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
We are updating you this week on a few things. One, COVID update. I’m sure that most of you have heard about the governor’s new mask requirement. Feels like it’s been a roller coaster. Masking, no masking; distancing, no distancing. We just never know what we’re gonna be thrown next, and right now it appears we’re back to wearing masks.
With that said there are some exemptions to the masking requirement and we believe that some of those exemptions may be applicable to at least some of our teams. So, we are working to get clarification about that, and so please come to class this week ready to wear a mask. And, as soon as we have that clarification, we will let you know.
So, your teacher will have masks available if you need to wear one. If your class is exempted from the masking requirements, we will let you know. In the meantime, while we get clarification, just be prepared to wear a mask, okay?
And, of course, we still have the option for students to join class virtually. And, students can join their class virtually, online, through their TeacherZone dashboard. So, if you log into TeacherZone, you’ll see your class there, with the little green Google Meet button, and you can join your class virtually from there, okay?
Of course, if you have any questions about masks, not masks, any of that stuff, please let us know.
And, as soon as we have that clarification, we will let you know.
Okay, so our Tapping into ExcellenceTM leadership focus for August is on knowledge, and part of knowledge is learning, and learning is super important. To continue to learn throughout our lives is so important, and it feels like, in some ways, it gets difficult as time goes on. So, as we have more responsibilities with, you know, schedules and work and all of this stuff, it feels like, “When are we gonna ever fit anything else in?”
Well, let me tell you. You can fit things in while you’re doing something that you already do. So, you can create your own learning university in a lot of ways. Here’s some ways.
One, Auto University: plug in an audio book while you’re driving and you can learn about something that you never knew. So, that’s one way.
Also, while you’re exercising, this is one of my favorite ways; especially when I’m like on an indoor (like a treadmill or an indoor) exercise machine of some sort. That’s one of my favorite ways, is to put the headphones in and listen to something.
While you’re waiting in line or waiting at the doctor’s office, you can create a Waiting University. If you always have a book or some sort of an audio educational experience going on, that’s another way.
And then, of course, while you’re on the job… these days, especially if your boss says it’s okay (of course you need to get your boss’s approval according to what your workplace rules are), but sometimes you can plug in your headphones while you’re doing something else or you can study during your work breaks.
So, there are a lot of ways where you can create your own learning university, while you’re already doing something. So, you can there’s a lot of ways. Maybe you have a different way that you like to learn and continue your own university. We would love to hear it.
This Saturday is our Silverton Arts Festival performance. We are going to be kicking off the arts festival on Saturday. Here’s all the details: this Saturday, August 21st. The performance, it starts at 12:30. Students arrive at 12:15. You will make your way to the Coolidge-McClaine park and you’ll find the stage that’s near the food court (they usually have a tent over the top of it, which is really nice for shade), so you’ll just come to the stage and you’ll meet us at the stage.
What to wear: you’re going to wear your studio t-shirt, some kind of black leggings or black shorts (some kind of black bottoms, but with your studio t-shirt), and your white clogging shoes. And, you can wear your hair any way you like; be creative, have fun.
What to bring: you’re going to want to bring water to drink, because after we’re up there exercising, you’re just going to want to have a little drink of water; and, of course, bring your family and friends who want to come and cheer and watch you perform; and bring your happy energy. We’re gonna share happy energy at the arts festival. It is going to be awesome and I can’t wait for our dancers to show off their stuff and kick off the arts festival with a bang. Yep.
So, here’s what’s on the calendar coming up. Of course, this Saturday is the arts festival performance.
Monday, September 6th we have no classes that Monday. We’re going to take that Labor Day off.
The week of September 27th we’re going to wear our studio t-shirts and some crazy socks to class.
The week of October 25th we’re gonna wear our non-scary, dance friendly Halloween costumes to class.
Next year, please keep our recital performances on your calendar. Saturday January 22nd is our winter showcase dress rehearsal and recital; that’s our low-key, relaxing, bring some winter cheer into our lives performance.
Saturday, June 4th is our summer kickoff dress rehearsal and recital. We have that in Salem, at Salem’s Historic Grand. It’s a lovely venue. Awesome.
Also, we have a couple of other fun announcements that we are holding back, but I’m really excited. I almost wanted to burst and share the news; but keep your eyes focused and your ears focused, we have some fun news coming up for September and some fun news coming up for October. Super excited. I’ll spill the beans, maybe next week. We’ll see.
Remember, masks; come prepared to class to wear masks this week, and be pleasantly surprised if we don’t need to wear them, and remember… happy dancing.
